Another music blog that posts (live music performances not available on the commercial market).

It's called Captain's Dead. You probably have been reading it for years. I'm slow, forgive me. Husker Du (sorry, no umlauts available) and Grant Lee Buffalo are there, among others.

No AOTP this week/Baldymore.

Weather is horrible and anyway, I've been down all week with a nasty cold, so I wouldn't have been up to it anyhow. Obviously, the return of the AOTP podcast is on hold as well. Last night was the first night since Saturday that I got a decent amount of uninterrupted sleep. (On Wednesday night, there was a two-hour stretch where I was waking up every 15 minutes because I couldn't breathe.)

On the bright side, Kim and I went to Baltimore/D.C. to visit with my good friend Michael, his wife Rona and their girls. We hit the following sights:

Capitol Steps - tepid political humor for people who can't handle The Daily Show.

Amicci's - stumbled into this one after wandering around Little Italy for a bit - good food!

The National Aquarium in Baltimore - if you like fish. The 4D Theater is pretty wild.

Maryland Science Center at Baltimore - We didn't actually get to the science part. Michael and I saw U23D on the IMAX screen here. It was quite overstimulating. and wiped me out pretty good.

Baltimore Maritime Museum - Not a museum in the truest sense. It's actually a series of ships and subs that you walk through. Not for the claustrophobic. We had to settle for this one on Sunday becauase the aquarium and the science museum were overflowing.

No more AOTP podcasts for a bit.

The CD burner at the station died a couple of weeks ago, so now there's no way to record the show. Since I'm off on winter break next week, I'm thinking about going back to the original AOTP podcast as a way to promote the show on HGRNJ.

By the way, HGR is now a non-profit organization, so the URL will be moving to homegrownradionj.org (or hgrnj.org). Adjust your bookmarks accordingly.

Hard to find: For Against - Mason's California lunchroom

So instead of being coy about it, here's For Against's 1995 album, Mason's California Lunchroom, released on the Rainbow Quartz label.

Going for $30 or more  everywhere that I can see: Amazon, MusicStack, GEMM.

Great record! I always loved this super-obscure band from Lincoln, NE. If you like what you hear, a few of their earlier works are now available on eMusic and have been rereleased in physical form on the Words On Music label.

BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD, A SMALL FAVOR:

After an extensive inventory process carried out throughout 2007, it has come to my attention that I am missing a number of CDs (at least 50 in number) that I was certain I had but now cannot find. Many of them are relatively easy to obtain, but here are a few that will be quite difficult to capture.

#1 - Shelf life by For Against. Received this as a promo in my You Could Do Worse days (1997). No idea where it is now. Very difficult to find - none of the usual suspects carry it.

(Finally found it for $12 on half.com!)

#2 - Broken toy shop by E. A bit pricey these days, usually between $20 and $40. With all the interest in Eels these days, you'd think some enterprising record label would rerelease this one.

(My friend Chris will hook me up with a copy of this one.)

#3 - Let's skip the details by My Dad Is Dead. Another one I'm certain I had. Could get it for around $20, but I'm holding out for a bit.

(Let's skip the details can be found at this page on the MDID website, along with a few others.)

IF YOU CAN HOOK ME UP IN ANY WAY,  SHAPE OR FORM WITH THESE GEMS, YOU WILL MAKE A FRIEND FOR LIFE!
