Garfield Minus Garfield.

I just looked at this site - why didn't someone think of this sooner?

What if you removed Garfield from the Garfield comic strip? I think it would go a little something like this...

Who would have guessed that when you remove Garfield from the Garfield comic strips, the result is an even better comic about schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and the empty desperation of modern life? Friends, meet Jon Arbuckle. Let’s laugh and learn with him on a journey deep into the tortured mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness in a quiet American suburb.

Garfield Minus Garfield.

Can't wait for the lawsuit.

Baseball's back...

and all is right with the world. I have eight fantasy teams this year - 4 at MLB.com and 4 at yahoo.com. Don't forget the MLB Extra Innings package from DirecTV.com!

Oh, and Bush got booed! MSNBC buries the story but DailyKos unearths it.

The return of AOTP:HGRNJ, episode 85.

The HGRNJ CD burner is down for good, with no replacement in sight (despite the fact that we are now paying $25 per month for the privilege of broadcasting - where is the money going?), so many of the DJs are resorting to using Freecorder to record their shows on their home PCs. I gave it a test run last night and it came out OK. These recordings won't sound as good as the previous shows I'd been posting because the new ones are the ones you'd hear if you were actually at home. The older shows were recorded right off the sound board. These new ones sound a lot harsher - sorry about that.

The process: record starting at 4.30 pm when I leave the house. Turn it off the next morning. Record at 64 kbs because that's the stream quality. By default, I'm also recording Jerry's show, Paleface Makes Big Noise. He doesn't have the wherewithal to take care of this business of recording, so I'm going to do it for him, no prob. Load the whole thing into Audacity and trim the stuff recorded before and after our shows. Split the remaining file into six parts (about one hour each). Export the whole thing to 128 kbs (I know, I know -  the source is at 64, but when I export it at 128, it sounds a little better). Still pretty harsh, but it will do.

With all that in mind, here's the return of AOTP on TGLF. All files are 128 kbs and about 60 minutes in length:

2008.03.09

Not much to report.

I went back to work after winter break, unlike last year, when I just walked away. I never talk about school here because there's nothing to say. Everything is going fine at the new school.  I'm 99% sure I'll get asked back for next year. Two more years for tenure. Wish me luck.

Any long-time readers of this blog may wonder what in the hell was that awful school I was working at last year. Now it will be revealed to you - MS 321 in Washington Heights. I'd like to find out if it's going any better this year, but my old teaching buddy (who's still there) has stopped returning my calls and e-mails. I'd heard through a former colleague that things weren't going so well.

Two differing opinions according to reviewers at insideschools.org:

"It's been a pleasure being a parent at MS 321," writes a parent. "My kids have been attending this school for a while now. It has been the best experience for me and my children. The coordination of parents, teachers, and staff being involved in events and services as a family is great. The welcome and attention that is given to the parents by staff and especially by the Principal Ms. Russell is greatly appreciated. I really am pleased to say that the help academically is amazing -- how fully staff are willing to help kids improve in their work, leading them to not give up." (February 2008)

"There are rumbles in the hallways every week, fights alomst every day, and a lot of gang issues," writes a student. "Not only that but this school does not prepare us for anything. Most of my peers have gotten 1s and 2s on state tests and no seniors have been accepted to a specialized high school. There are never enough supplies/classroom materials to help us out and if we do get them, their always given to us too late." (February 2008)

I'm more inclined to believe the kid.
